Hints for the setting that all important quit day

The key to a successful quit attempt is all in the planning and making sure you have a good a start as possible. Use these hints below as well as the advice and support from your Wellness Coach and look forward to leading your new Smokefree life!

  • Make today special – be kind to yourself
  • Get out that list of why you want to stop smoking. Have it to hand to remind yourself why you are doing this
  • Practice saying, ‘No thanks, I don’t smoke’ or for those people you would have difficulty with, think up some alternatives such as ‘No thanks, I’ll have one later’ or ‘No thanks, I’ve got a sore throat’!
  • Get active – swimming, walking and cycling
  • Start a savings jar by putting in the amount you would have spent on cigarettes. Write or draw a picture on it for what you are saving for
  • Keep at the ready low calorie nibbles such as carrot, celery, apple or sugar free gum
  • Get up and do something if your mind gets obsessed – those jobs around the house you’ve been meaning to do, a jigsaw or something which involves your hands
  • Give yourself a reward at the end of the day
  • Plan for another treat tomorrow – cinema, meal out or new clothes
  • Never think, ‘one won’t hurt’, IT WILL!
